Insurance for The Guardians Tribe Members, What You Need to Know

We’ve had a lot of questions around insurance recently, so we wanted to create one clear place that explains everything in plain English.

This post isn’t here to tell you what you must do. It’s here to give you clarity, so you can make informed choices that feel right for you and the way you live, travel, and care for animals.

Insurance on Guardians Tribe is about choice, not enforcement.

Is insurance required to be part of Guardians Tribe?

No.

Insurance is not required to join or remain a member of Guardians Tribe.

That said, for members providing pet care and pet sitting, insurance is highly recommended. Caring for someone else’s animal comes with responsibility, and insurance can offer peace of mind and protection if something unexpected happens.

Whether or not you choose to be insured is always your decision.

Who does this apply to?

Right now, insurance support through Guardians Tribe is available to UK-based members only.

If you are based outside the UK, nothing changes for you. Insurance requirements vary widely by country, and international members should arrange any insurance locally if they choose or are required to do so.

As Guardians Tribe grows, insurance options will naturally expand into other territories where our partners already operate, when the timing feels right.

Our insurance partnerships

We are partnered at a group level with Petcover Group.

Within that partnership:

Brooks Braithwaite is the specialist UK provider offering pet business insurance for members who care for animals
British Pet Insurance provides pet insurance for members’ own pets, with exclusive member discounts available

This is a grow-together partnership, built on alignment and trust, not forced rollouts or rigid timelines.

Does the insurance include pet sitting and pet care?

Yes.

For UK members, the insurance available does include pet care and pet sitting activities, provided those activities are declared when obtaining a quote.

This was one of the most important considerations for us when choosing an insurance partner, as pet sitting and in-home care are central to what many Guardians do.

What is typically covered?

Cover depends on what you select and the information you provide, but UK pet business insurance can typically include:

Public Liability
Cover for injury to people or damage to property that occurs while you are carrying out pet-related services or caring for animals.

Care, Custody and Control
Cover for pets while they are in your care, including injury, illness, loss, escape, or death.

Professional Indemnity
Relevant where advice or specialist services are provided, such as training, behaviour work, or grooming.

Employers’ Liability
Required if you use staff or volunteers, depending on how they work with you.

Depending on the cover selected, policies can include options such as:
Up to £5 million Public Liability
Up to £10 million Employers’ Liability
Up to £100,000 Professional Indemnity

All cover is subject to policy terms, limits, and conditions, which should always be reviewed directly with the insurer.

Where can this cover apply?

UK insurance can typically cover:
Working in clients’ homes
Working in public spaces
Caring for multiple pets at the same time

These details must be declared when obtaining a quote so the policy reflects how you actually operate.

How do members access the discounted quote?

UK members who choose to be insured can access an exclusive Guardians Tribe member discount through our dedicated partner landing page with Brooks Braithwaite.

This page is set up specifically for our community and reflects our partnership.

There is no obligation to proceed, and we always encourage members to review the policy details carefully before deciding.

Is Guardians Tribe giving insurance advice?

No.

We don’t provide insurance advice, interpret policies, or confirm cover for specific situations.

Our role is to offer trusted options and clear information. Choosing the right cover, and understanding what it includes, is always between you and the insurer.

What about insurance for your own pets?

Alongside business insurance, we’re also partnered with British Pet Insurance, offering exclusive discounted pet insurance for members’ own pets.

Full details on both business insurance and pet insurance options will be available on the website shortly.

A final word

Insurance isn’t about fear or compliance. It’s about understanding your responsibilities and choosing what feels right for you.

Guardians Tribe exists to support freedom, trust, and informed choice.
This guidance is here to offer clarity, not pressure.
