Helping Homeowners and Guardians understand their insurance responsibilities and find appropriate cover.
Insurance forms an important part of The Guardians Tribe’s trust and safety standards.
Guardians are required to hold appropriate pet-sitting insurance for the mutual exchange Guardianship stays they undertake. Homeowners are also required to confirm that their home insurance provides appropriate cover for having a Guardian staying in their property.
Where Guardian insurance has been verified, we display the geographical area that their confirmed cover applies to, helping Homeowners understand whether a Guardian’s insurance is suitable for the location of a potential stay.
Insurance policies are arranged directly between the member and their chosen insurance provider and remain in the member’s own name. Cover, exclusions, geographical limits and eligibility will depend on the individual policy and insurer.
The Guardians Tribe does not sell, arrange or provide regulated insurance advice. We may introduce members to insurance providers and provide general information, but members remain responsible for confirming directly with their insurer that their policy is appropriate for their circumstances and the Guardianship stays they undertake.
UK-Based Guardians & European Stays
Brooks Braithwaite provides specialist pet-sitting insurance for eligible UK-based customers. Depending on the individual policy, cover may also extend to temporary house and pet sitting undertaken in parts of Europe.
Because eligibility, territorial limits and policy conditions can vary, Guardians should contact Brooks Braithwaite directly and explain where they are resident, where they intend to undertake Guardianship stays and that those stays are arranged through mutual exchange.
Members should not assume that holding UK pet-sitting insurance automatically provides cover in another country. Cover should always be confirmed directly with the insurer before accepting an international stay.
International Insurance Options
We recognise that The Guardians Tribe is a global community and that insurance availability differs considerably between countries.
We are continuing to work with insurance providers and explore additional partnerships to help Guardians based outside the UK identify appropriate insurance options.
Until suitable partnerships are available in every region, Guardians remain responsible for obtaining appropriate cover in their country of residence and confirming where that insurance applies before undertaking a Guardianship stay.
Brooks Braithwaite specialises in insurance for professional pet carers, house sitters, travelling Guardians and pet care businesses.
Depending on your circumstances, cover may be available whether you travel full-time, sit occasionally or operate a professional pet care business.
Every policy is arranged directly with Brooks Braithwaite, meaning your insurance belongs to you rather than being tied to The Guardians Tribe.

House and pet sitting is built on trust, but even well-planned Guardianship stays can involve unexpected situations.
Whether someone is caring for a much-loved pet, staying in another person’s home or opening their own home to a Guardian, appropriate insurance can provide an important layer of protection and greater clarity around responsibility if something goes wrong.
At The Guardians Tribe, insurance is part of our membership standards. Guardians are required to hold suitable pet-sitting insurance for the mutual exchange Guardianship stays they undertake, while Homeowners are required to have appropriate home insurance that allows for a Guardian or guest to stay in their property.
We do not offer a single platform-wide insurance policy. Instead, members arrange their own cover directly with an insurance provider, allowing the policy to be held in their own name and tailored to their individual circumstances, location and needs.
Where possible, The Guardians Tribe works with insurance specialists who understand house sitting, pet sitting and pet ownership. Members remain responsible for checking the terms, exclusions, territorial limits and eligibility of any policy before relying on it for a particular stay.
One of the benefits of arranging insurance directly with an insurer is that the policy belongs to you rather than being tied solely to The Guardians Tribe.
Depending on the individual policy, cover may apply to qualifying pet-sitting activities undertaken both through The Guardians Tribe and elsewhere. For Guardians who travel internationally, it is particularly important to confirm exactly which countries or territories are covered before agreeing to a stay.
Where a Guardian’s insurance has been verified, The Guardians Tribe displays the geographical area that confirmed cover applies to, helping Homeowners make more informed decisions when considering a potential match.
Insurance should never be assumed to apply simply because a policy exists. Always check the individual policy wording and confirm any uncertainty directly with the insurer before a Guardianship stay begins.
No. Insurance is not included within your membership fee. Guardians and Homeowners are responsible for arranging their own appropriate insurance directly with an insurer. Insurance is required as part of The Guardians Tribe’s membership standards, but the policy itself remains separate from your membership.
No. The Guardians Tribe does not sell, arrange or provide regulated insurance advice. We may introduce members to trusted insurance providers and share general information, but any policy is taken out directly between you and the insurer.
You do. Any policy you take out is arranged directly with the insurance provider in your own name. This means the policy belongs to you and is not tied solely to The Guardians Tribe, subject to the terms and conditions of your cover.
No. Claims, policy changes and questions about cover are handled directly by your insurance provider. If you are unsure whether something is covered, you should contact your insurer directly.
Where available, yes. Some of our insurance partners may offer exclusive discounts or tailored options for The Guardians Tribe members. Eligibility, pricing and cover remain subject to the individual provider’s terms.
Where a Guardian’s insurance has been verified, we display the geographical area that confirmed cover applies to. This helps Homeowners understand whether a Guardian’s insurance is relevant to the country where a Guardianship stay will take place. Members should still confirm any uncertainty directly with the insurer before agreeing to a stay.
